May '26 Vol. 1 is a 12-song collection written by Briyan Frederick during and around May 2026, bringing together newly written material alongside songs reconstructed and reimagined from recordings and ideas dating back through his 40+ years of recording music. The album reflects Briyan’s ongoing fascination with memory, time, reinvention, aging, relationships, absurdity, and the persistence of creativity across decades of home recording and experimentation.

Rather than treating older recordings as archival artifacts, May ’26 Vol. 1 transforms them into living material. Some songs began as fragments, instrumental sketches, cassette recordings, or unfinished ideas from entirely different periods of Briyan’s life, now revisited and completed through new lyrics, arrangements, and performances. Tracks such as “Lucifer’s Playground” trace directly back to instrumental recordings originally created on a Tascam Porta One 4-track recorder years ago, now reshaped into fully realized songs carrying both the texture of their origins and the perspective of the present day.

The collection moves fluidly between introspective songwriting, emotional uncertainty, dark humor, surreal observations, and moments of vulnerability. Songs like “Anxious,” “It Hurts Every Time,” and “Our Meeting Place of the Heart” explore personal and emotional terrain with sincerity and directness, while tracks such as “I Think That’s Something Else Entirely” and “I Wonder If You Knew That I Knew What You Didn’t Want Me to Know All Along” lean into the strange psychological and absurd dimensions that frequently run beneath Briyan’s writing.

Throughout the album, there is an underlying awareness of time passing — not simply nostalgia, but the act of carrying unfinished creative fragments forward across decades and allowing them to evolve into something new.
